11 dead in stampede at cricket victory parade in India

A deadly stampede outside a cricket stadium in Bengaluru has left eleven people dead and dozens injured during a victory parade celebrating Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL win.

Over 200,000 fans flooded the streets—double the expected number—leading to a deadly crush as crowds tried to force their way through a small, unopened gate.

Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, which turned a joyful celebration into a scene of mourning.

Metro stations were overwhelmed and eventually shut down as panic spread through the city.
