Ashes chaos at the MCG as 20 wickets fall in record-setting opening day

Australia edged ahead after a wildly unpredictable first day of the fourth Ashes Test at the MCG, where 20 wickets tumbled in front of a record crowd of 93,442.

England struck first after winning the toss, with Josh Tongue claiming a career-best 5-45 to dismiss Australia for 152, but the tourists then imploded spectacularly, collapsing to 110 in just 29.5 overs.

Michael Neser starred for the hosts with 4-45 and a top score of 35, helping Australia take a narrow lead before Scott Boland and Travis Head safely saw out the day at 4 for no loss in the second innings, holding a 46-run advantage on a lively pitch that drew strong reactions from both camps.
