Northumbria Police have confirmed the discovery of a body believed to be former England rugby player Tom Voyce, 43, after his car was swept into the River Aln during Storm Darragh.
Voyce, who failed to return home after visiting friends, reportedly attempted to cross Abberwick Ford amid severe flooding. His car was found during extensive searches involving police, a specialist Marine Unit, and his family.
Although formal identification is pending, Voyce’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support. Voyce won nine England caps and had a distinguished club career primarily with London Wasps.
