Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has resigned following public accusations from major shareholder Dermot Desmond, who labelled his conduct “divisive, misleading, and self-serving.”
Former boss Martin O’Neill will take interim charge, assisted by Shaun Maloney. Rodgers’ departure from the Scottish football giants comes with Celtic eight points behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership and struggling in Europe.
In a strongly worded statement, Desmond disputed Rodgers’ claim that no contract extension had been offered and accused him of creating a “toxic atmosphere” around the club. Rodgers, who rejoined Celtic in 2023 after a previous stint from 2016 to 2019, leaves less than halfway through his three-year contract.
