The Crusaders have banned Chiefs fans from bringing cowbells to Saturday’s Super Rugby Pacific final in Christchurch, citing safety concerns and the cramped conditions of Apollo Projects Stadium.
Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge said fans are welcome but urged them to leave the noisy cowbells at home, joking they’d be melted down at the gate.
In response, Chiefs CEO Simon Graafhuis promoted a digital cowbell and said the restriction showed concern over the Chiefs’ passionate fanbase.
While some Chiefs fans have expressed frustration, Mansbridge insisted the move was practical and light-hearted, with fans able to reclaim any confiscated cowbells after the match.
