Ellesse Andrews dominated the women’s keirin final at the Paris Olympics, securing gold with a powerful performance in the six-woman race.
The 24-year-old cyclist from Christchurch, who previously won silver in the same event at the Tokyo Games, maintained her composure through the semi-finals and executed her strategy flawlessly in the final.
Andrews took the lead on the penultimate lap and held off challengers, winning by 0.062 seconds ahead of Dutch rider Hetty van de Wouw, with Great Britain’s Emma Finucane taking bronze.
