Jack Leach claimed three crucial wickets on the final day to lead England to a record-breaking victory over Pakistan, winning by an innings and 47 runs.
Pakistan, who began the day six wickets down and missing Abrar Ahmed due to illness, briefly resisted through a 109-run partnership between Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal.
However, Leach quickly trapped Salman for 63 and wrapped up Pakistan’s innings at 220 with two more quick dismissals, finishing with figures of 4-30.
England’s historic win came after conceding 556 runs in Pakistan’s first innings, making them the first team to win by an innings after allowing such a high score.
The victory was powered by an extraordinary batting display, led by Harry Brook’s 317 and Joe Root’s 262 in England’s total of 823-7 declared.
Pakistan’s struggles continue, with this being their 11th consecutive home Test without a win, and pressure mounts on captain Shan Masood following his sixth straight Test defeat. England now lead the series 1-0 ahead of the second Test, starting Tuesday.
