New Zealand cricket legend Kane Williamson has announced that he will limit his international participation to test matches this summer, stepping down from the captaincy of the Black Caps’ white-ball teams.
Alongside pace bowler Lockie Ferguson, Williamson has declined a New Zealand Cricket central contract to prioritise playing in overseas T20 franchise leagues.
Williamson remains committed to contributing to the team and open to future central contract offers. New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive Scott Weenink told media he supported Williamson’s decision, as it was likely to prolong his international career while accommodating his family-oriented priorities.
