Turkey’s Football Federation (TFF) has uncovered widespread betting among match officials, revealing that 371 of 571 had gambling accounts and 152 actively placed bets, including one official who made more than 18,000 wagers.
TFF president Ibrahim Ethem Haciosmanoglu said seven referees and 15 assistants from the top divisions were among those implicated, vowing disciplinary action under TFF, FIFA, and UEFA regulations.
Offenders could face bans of up to three years and fines of up to 100,000 Swiss francs. Major clubs including Besiktas, Trabzonspor, and Fenerbahce described the scandal as shocking but said it offered a chance to restore integrity to Turkish football.
