An inquest hearing has confirmed that former Liverpool women’s manager Matt Beard, 47, was found hanged at his home in Deeside, Flintshire, before dying in hospital in Chester on 20 September.
The Ruthin coroner’s court was told paramedics were called to his home, and the case has been adjourned for a full inquest at a later date.
Beard led Liverpool to back-to-back Women’s Super League titles in 2013 and 2014, returned for a second spell in 2021 before being sacked earlier this year, and briefly managed Burnley before resigning in June.
His death has prompted tributes across football, including a minute’s silence before WSL and WSL2 matches, and a fundraiser that has raised over £50,000 for his family.
Matt Beard’s death is heartbreaking.
Male suicide is devastating so many families and we must do more to prevent it.
