Ciaran Frawley delivered a sensational drop-goal with the last kick of the game, securing a win for Ireland against South Africa 24-25 in a dramatic Test in Durban.
Despite leading 16-6 at halftime, Ireland struggled in the second half as South Africa capitalised on their errors. Handre Pollard’s impeccable penalty kicking brought South Africa back into the game, putting them ahead with just over 10 minutes left. However, Frawley, introduced in the second half, clinched the dramatic win with his second drop-goal.
Ireland’s performance was marked by moments of brilliance despite being under immense pressure.
Conor Murray’s early try and Frawley’s late heroics overshadowed the dominant South African scrum and Pollard’s penalty prowess. South Africa, driven by a powerful second-half display, seemed poised for victory after overturning a 10-point deficit.
Yet, Ireland’s determination, even with captain Caelan Doris sin-binned, led to the remarkable finish.
The result marked a significant achievement for Ireland under head coach Andy Farrell, celebrating his 50th Test in charge, while South Africa suffered their first defeat at Kings Park since 2016.
