Masashi “Jumbo” Ozaki, Japan’s most successful professional golfer, has died at the age of 78 after a battle with colon cancer.
Renowned for his powerful driving and remarkable longevity, Ozaki won a record 94 tournaments on the Japan Tour, topped the money list 12 times and spent nearly 200 weeks among the world’s top 10 players.
A former professional baseball player turned golfing icon, Ozaki helped spark a surge in the sport’s popularity in Japan, earned induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011.
