The One New Zealand Warriors received a boost with Luke Metcalf and Rocco Berry both making successful returns from injury in a 30-20 New South Wales Cup loss to Penrith on Sunday.

Metcalf played his first game in almost two months after recovering from a hamstring injury and showed encouraging signs, setting up two tries, recording three line-break assists and producing a strong kicking game.

Berry also returned for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury late last season, completing a planned 60-minute stint without setbacks.

Although the Warriors trailed 30-0 early in the second half, they rallied with four late tries to finish the match strongly against the competition leaders, while the successful comebacks of two key NRL squad members provided the biggest positive from the outing.
