Moana Pasifika entered liquidation owing an estimated $8.2 million to creditors, according to the first report from liquidators, with around $4.3 million owed to secured creditors and $3.9 million to unsecured creditors.
More than 140 parties, including players, coaches and staff whose employment ended when the franchise collapsed, are listed as known or potential creditors.
Among the largest claims is a reported $2.75 million loan sought by Sport NZ, while other creditors include ASB Bank, Inland Revenue, the New Zealand Rugby Players’ Association and Auckland Council.
Liquidators are continuing to assess claims and investigate the club’s finances, with remaining assets valued at about $700,000, including equipment and intellectual property such as the Moana Pasifika trademark, which could prove significant in any future effort to revive the franchise.
