Dropped by coach Michael Maguire a week earlier, Gehamat Shibasaki made a decisive impact with a late try as the Brisbane Broncos beat the Dolphins 26-12 at Suncorp Stadium, with the winger stepping up after an injury to Grant Anderson.

Brisbane’s much-criticised defence held firm despite heavy pressure, highlighted by a crucial try-saving tackle from Reece Walsh, while captain Adam Reynolds answered critics with a strong all-round performance, including a try and assist.

Although Ezra Mam gifted the Dolphins a try with a poor pass, Brisbane responded through Walsh’s aerial pressure to set up Shibasaki’s match-sealing effort, with contributions from Ben Talty and Josiah Karapani underpinning a resilient team display.
