Top German biathlete sidelined with myocarditis ahead of season

German biathlete Johanna Puff has announced she is stepping away from training and competition for several weeks after being diagnosed with myocarditis.

Puff revealed the news in a post on Instagram, saying the condition has finally given her clarity about ongoing health issues but comes as a major setback just as the new season was approaching.

“Unfortunately, myocarditis is forcing me to step away from training and racing for the next few weeks,” she wrote. “It’s tough to accept—especially before starting the season with clear goals—but my health has to come first.”

Puff, a rising talent in German biathlon, has previously enjoyed success at junior level, winning multiple medals as part of Germany’s relay teams at the Junior World Championships.

There is no timeline yet for her return to competition, with her focus now on recovery and following medical advice before resuming training.
