The Waratahs’ Super Rugby finals hopes were all but extinguished in a crushing 33–48 home loss to the Crusaders.
Despite a spirited second-half fightback, the Waratahs were outclassed early, trailing by 24 points at halftime due to a passive defence and costly errors. Captain Jake Gordon called it the worst loss of his tenure, lamenting the team’s failure to deliver for departing players and fans.
Coach Dan McKellar cited deeper “systemic issues” and a culture of complacency that need urgent change. Although Angus Bell, Langi Gleeson, and Darby Lancaster impressed, the Waratahs’ inconsistency proved too great to overcome, leaving them clinging to mathematical finals chances and playing for pride in their remaining away games.
