Meta is introducing new restrictions for teenagers on Facebook and Messenger, with teen accounts automatically set to private, controls on who can message them, muted notifications after 10pm, and limits on sensitive content.
Teenagers over 16 can opt out of the measures, while those under 16 require parental consent, and parents can also set daily time limits or block access overnight.
Similar protections were launched earlier this year on Instagram and in the UK, US, and Australia.
From 10 December, Australia will ban children under 16 from using social media, and New Zealand is also investigating a ban.
Age verification will be required with ID or a video selfie when setting up adult accounts.
