A British man has died and more than 20 others have been injured after a tourist bus lost control and plunged into a ravine on the island of La Gomera in Spain’s Canary Islands.
The crash occurred on the GM-2 road on Friday afternoon, with 24 adult passengers, three minors and the driver on board, most of them British holidaymakers.
Emergency services treated all 28 occupants, confirming one 77-year-old man had died while dozens suffered injuries, including several in serious condition who were airlifted to hospitals in Tenerife.
Authorities deployed helicopters, ambulances and medical teams, while an emergency alert was declared under the Canary Islands’ civil protection plan. The driver told police the vehicle’s brakes failed while descending, prompting an attempt to steer onto a dirt track before the crash.
Investigations are ongoing, with officials examining the scene near a tunnel. The victims had reportedly been travelling from a resort to catch a ferry when the incident occurred.
