Tragedy struck on a Singapore Airlines flight from London when severe turbulence led to the death of one passenger and injuries to several others.

The Boeing 777-300ER, operating as Flight SQ 321, was diverted to Bangkok, landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 15:45 local time (08:00 GMT).

The flight was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, according to a statement from Singapore Airlines. “Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” the airline said.

Following the incident the airline coordinated with Thai authorities to arrange medical care for the injured passengers and announced that a support team was being sent to Bangkok to provide further assistance.

Emergency services, including ambulances and response teams, were deployed swiftly to the airport by Thai officials.

Details of the events that led to the turbulence and the exact nature of the injuries remain unclear.

While turbulence is a common aspect of air travel and usually presents minimal danger, severe cases like this are exceptionally rare. Pilots often exchange information about turbulence conditions to enhance passenger safety, but some turbulence can occur unpredictably and without warning, regardless of weather conditions.
