A Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Dublin, aboard a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, encountered severe turbulence over Turkey, resulting in injuries to twelve individuals, including both passengers and crew members.
The incident occurred as the plane flew over Turkey, taking crew and passengers by surprise during meal service when the aircraft dramatically dipped.
Emergency services were promptly on scene when the plane landed in Dublin at approximately 1pm local time Sunday, with eight of the injured needing hospital care.
Witnesses reported chaotic scenes with food and drinks scattered, and some passengers and crew sustaining visible injuries. Despite the distressing episode, airport operations remained stable, and the aircraft was scheduled for a return flight to Doha after a delay.
The airline has initiated an internal investigation to understand the circumstances of the incident.
