Thousands took to the streets of Buenos Aires in a demonstration following the torture and killing of 15-year-old Lara Gutierrez and cousins Morena Verdi and Brenda del Castillo, both aged 20.

The victims were deceived into entering a van on 19 September, believing they were going to a party, but were instead abducted and brutalised by a drug-trafficking gang.

Disturbingly, the murders were livestreamed as a warning to others accused of breaking “gang codes”.

Police have arrested five suspects, though the alleged mastermind — a 20-year-old Peruvian national — remains on the run. Authorities released his photograph to aid in the manhunt, while the victims’ bodies were discovered buried in a Buenos Aires suburb days later.

Grief and outrage poured out during Saturday’s march to Parliament, where relatives of the victims demanded accountability. Brenda’s father described the brutality as so severe that he could not recognise his daughter, while her grandfather denounced the killers as “bloodthirsty.”

Protesters echoed calls for stronger protections for women, highlighting Argentina’s alarming statistic: one woman is killed by a man every 36 hours. The atrocity has reignited national debate on gender-based violence, exposing both the human toll of organised crime and systemic failures to safeguard vulnerable women and girls.

  1. Anybody having traveled through South America will know why there is such a high level of aggression between the genders. Males just deal with that physically. The aggression and manipulation dished out by females is the counter part. Verbal violence and female games are the counter part.
And then there is the unmentioned factor: many females in the current generation behave like prostitutes. The ones at the corner are the more honest. Social posturing has evolved into disgusting social patterns. Twerking and f*ck-lips…they are treated as they behave.

    • Well western societies are no better. Only have for the moment more money and seem more ” civilised”. Drugs are consumed as if it were milk. With all violence it implies. Males use telefoon to harass females and send pic. of their private parts a.o. things
Societies have become violent and barbary is not far away

  2. USA murder rate 6.8. Argentina murder rate 3.8. Why this hit job on Argentina when ranking is lower that a lot of countries. It’s till high however it has been declining from 9.4 in 2002 and has seen greater drop since Milei came into power. I wonder if this is another CIA backed protest?

  3. The problem is a good portion of Latin America could best be called narco states. They need a Lee Kuan Yew or a Duterte style leader to clean things up from top to bottom. Of course, being US Monroe Doctrine, “territory”, where corruption and crime serve their ends, its hard for things to change and anyone trying might just get hauled in front of the neo colonial ICC.
