George Galloway’s landslide win in Rochdale by-election rocks Britain’s political elites

The landslide victory has sent shockwaves through the corridors of British politics.

DTNZ syndicated contributor George Galloway, the firebrand politician known for his oratory prowess and maverick political positions has secured a decisive victory in the Rochdale by-election representing the British Workers Party.

His 12,333 votes was over 6,000 more than the nearest candidate, independent businessman Dave Tully. Rochdale, a traditional Labour stronghold with a 10,000 majority at the last election, only delivered 7.7% of the vote to Keir Starmer’s party this time round.

The win represented not just a personal triumph for the former Labour party man, but delivered a major political statement to the halls of power, as voters showed a desire for change.

Galloway’s campaign was notable for its vigorous engagement with the community and a series of electrifying public meetings which resonated with the voters of Rochdale. His platform, advocating for social justice, economic revitalisation, and a strong stance against foreign interventions struck a chord with the working class constituents who have long felt marginalised or ignored by Labour and the Tories.

Sunak responded to the result with a 10-minute national address on television where he labelled it ‘alarming’ and accused Galloway of being ‘an extremist,’ on account of Galloway’s long-held support for Palestinian causes.

Echoing Sunak’s comments, legacy media characterised Galloway’s campaign as ‘divisive’, but the party’s website implored Brtions ‘not to believe the press’.

‘Don’t believe the Press, this has been a great campaign. The Press say its been divisive, in fact its been peaceful. The press say its only about Gaza, but we’ve campaigned hard on: our campaign to return a maternity ward to Rochdale; our campaign to reopen the indoor market; our work to organise a consortium to save Rochdale FC; our plan to clean up the Town Hall.’

Speaking after the results had been declared, Galloway said, ‘Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak are two cheeks of the same backside and they both got well and truly spanked tonight here in Rochdale.

‘It’s true that every Muslim is bitterly angry at Keir Starmer and his misnamed Labour party – but you would be very foolish if you didn’t realise that millions of other citizens of our country are too.

‘Beginning here in the north west, in the west Midlands, in London, from Ilford to Bethnal Green and Bow, Labour is on notice that they have lost the confidence of millions of their voters who loyally and traditionally voted for them, generation after generation.’

Galloway told the BBC he had 60 Workers Party candidates willing to stand in the general election and there would be, ‘a shifting of the tectonic plates in scores of parliamentary constituencies’ in reference to this year’s UK general election.

  1. It was great to see Galloway spank the U.S. Senate about 20 years ago over the food/for/oil scheme in Iraq, when he was falsely accused of malfeasance.
He promptly and quickly put the U.S. Senate Chamber to shame, and embarrassed the hell out of them with his comparisons and the political hypocrisy in D.C.
It might still be up on YouTube.
