Russia has accused Kiev mayor Vitaly Klitschko of hypocrisy after he suggested lowering Ukraine’s draft age to 22 or 23 while his own two physically fit sons reportedly live abroad and have not enlisted.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claimed Klitschko is urging more young Ukrainians into a war marked by mounting battlefield losses, even as his family avoids service, framing it as part of a ruling “clique” desperate to retain power and secure Western support.
The criticism followed Klitschko’s comments acknowledging Ukraine’s massive manpower shortages, with nearly 100,000 young men having recently fled the country amid ongoing reports of abuse by draft officials and human rights concerns raised by European monitors.
