Iran accuses Israel of bombing girls’ primary school

Dozens of civilians have reportedly been killed after an Israeli airstrike struck a girls’ primary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab as joint military operations by Israel and the United States continue across Iran.

Iranian state-affiliated media reported that the death toll from Saturday’s attack has climbed to 85, citing local judicial authorities, while emergency crews remain at the scene searching through debris for survivors. Iran’s official IRNA news agency said at least 63 others were wounded when the school building was hit during the wider bombardment campaign.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the strike, sharing images he said showed the destroyed school and describing the victims as innocent children. He warned that the attack would draw a response, while Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei labelled the incident a “clear crime” and called on the United Nations Security Council to intervene.

Separate reports from Mehr News Agency indicated another Israeli strike targeted a school near Tehran, killing at least two students. Observers in Tehran say the incidents are likely to intensify accusations from Iranian officials that civilian sites are being hit despite repeated US and Israeli assertions that operations are directed solely at military infrastructure.

Neither Washington nor Tel Aviv immediately commented on Iran’s allegations. The latest strikes revive memories of the June 2025 conflict between Iran and US-aligned forces, during which Iranian authorities reported widespread civilian casualties and significant damage to public infrastructure.
