Three Kenyan police officers and three civilians have been charged with the murder of blogger Albert Ojwang, whose death in police custody has sparked nationwide protests and condemnation.
Ojwang, 31, was arrested after allegedly defaming Deputy Police Chief Eliud Lagat, who has since stepped aside.
Police initially claimed Ojwang died by suicide, but an autopsy revealed assault wounds.
Outrage intensified after a street vendor, Boniface Kariuki, was critically injured by a police officer during protests in Nairobi. Reports say Kariuki, a street hawker, was not part of the protest and was an innocent bystander when he was shot at point blank range by police in shocking video circulating online. Activists have called for a national shutdown to mark a year since deadly anti-tax protests, demanding justice for both incidents and accountability for police brutality.

I write to you with a heavy heart and unwavering conviction, urging your immediate attention and action concerning a grave human rights violation that has taken place in Kenya.
