A truck driver has been taken to hospital after becoming trapped when his vehicle overturned on a Melbourne freeway overpass, causing major traffic disruption today.
The crash occurred on a ramp connecting to the M80 Western Ring Road in Melbourne’s west after the truck reportedly struck a bollard and rolled onto its side.
Emergency crews, including Ambulance Victoria paramedics, were called to the scene shortly before 7.30am and treated the 51-year-old driver before transporting him to Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Aerial images showed debris from the truck’s load strewn across multiple lanes, while sections of the freeway were covered with white sheeting as emergency services responded.
The incident forced the closure of all city-bound lanes of the Princes Freeway leading to the West Gate Freeway and Geelong Road, as well as the Altona-bound ramp from the M80 Ring Road, resulting in significant traffic delays across the network.
