Trudeau expected to announce resignation in coming days

Trudeau news

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is increasingly likely to announce his resignation as leader of the ruling Liberal Party, though no final decision has been made, according to a source familiar with his plans.

UPDATE: Trudeau resigns

The Globe and Mail reported that Trudeau could step down as early as Monday, ahead of an emergency meeting of Liberal legislators set for Wednesday. Mounting pressure from party members, alarmed by dismal polls predicting a significant loss to the opposition Conservatives, has intensified calls for Trudeau to quit.

Despite his virtual participation in a scheduled meeting on Canada-U.S. relations, the Prime Minister’s Office has yet to comment.

Trudeau’s potential departure after nine years in office would leave the Liberals without a permanent leader amid rising political uncertainty.

Trudeau, who led the Liberals to victory in 2015 with a progressive platform and promises of “sunny ways,” has faced mounting challenges in recent years, including public discontent over economic strains, tyrannical COVID policies, housing shortages, and immigration pressures.

The pandemic’s fiscal toll and a recent high-profile cabinet shakeup, involving former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s resignation after a dispute over spending policies, further weakened his support.

While discussions about interim leadership have reportedly involved Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, the question of Trudeau’s timeline and potential successor remains unresolved.

  1. First there was Ardern (NZ)
    Then there was Johnson (UK)
    Then Sunak (UK)
    Then Biden (US)
    Now Trudeau (CA)
    Next Starmer (UK)
    Then Macron (FR)

There will be an enquiry into these murderously despicable thugs. If the law doesn’t get you, hopefully a very upset parent who lost a beloved child will.

  2. The long goodbye.
Trudeau, 53, currently the longest-serving leader of any G-7 country, announced Monday he plans to step down as head of the governing Liberal Party. He will remain as prime minister until a new leader is selected, and parliament has been suspended until March 24 while that process is underway. (Zerohedge)
