UK Green Energy advocate and Just Stop Oil donor accused of hypocrisy over lavish lifestyle

Dale Vince news

Dale Vince, a prominent UK Labour Party donor and supporter of Just Stop Oil, faced accusations of hypocrisy in a High Court divorce hearing, where his ex-wife described their marriage as marked by luxury and “conspicuous consumerism”.

Kate Vince claimed the “green energy entrepreneur”, who publicly advocates for “sustainability”, had indulged in private jet travel, champagne, designer clothing, and a 56ft luxury yacht, contradicting his professed “low-impact lifestyle”. She testified that their life together included international holidays, first-class travel, and a home often surrounded by piles of discarded packaging from excessive purchases.

While Dale Vince maintained that he has championed sustainability since the 1980s, Mrs. Vince contested this narrative, stating he had “no problem participating in conspicuous consumerism.”

The case has also highlighted the couple’s bitter legal battle over assets, with Mrs. Vince seeking a 50% share of their wealth, including the green energy firm Ecotricity.

Critics have pointed out the contrast between Vince’s environmental advocacy, his substantial financial backing of Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion, and the opulent lifestyle revealed during the court proceedings. The hearing continues.
