For more than two years New Zealanders have witnessed central government enact laws and implement policies which have divided our country like never before.
We’re also seeing central government undemocratically grab power off local communities to centralise in Wellington.
This year’s local body elections provides an excellent opportunity for kiwis concerned about the state of our democracy to take action.
Traditionally, local body elections haven’t generated much enthusiasm, resulting in low voter turnouts and community engagement. But Voices For Freedom (VFF) wants to change that this year. VFF is encouraging kiwis to take this opportunity and get involved and make a difference.
There’s a range of roles up for grabs – from mayors, to councillors and community board members (‘local board members’ in Auckland). Some are full-time, others part-time. All positions receive paid remuneration, and the amount depends on the location and extent of the role.
There’s many ways citizens can contribute:
- help VFF find suitable people to run for office and ensure their registrations are completed on time.
- taking an interest in the local elections by studying each candidate’s policies and backgrounds, and choosing to vote for the one who best promotes concern for local issues and offers local solutions, and stands for freedom of choice
- running as a candidate, especially if you are already a member of VFF. If you want to run, get in touch with VFF as soon as possible
- providing voluntary support for a freedom-loving candidate – helping with letterbox drops, media, transport and canvassing, for example
With a network of like-minded freedom-loving people standing for positions and an engaged, active local electorate, a strong message can be sent to central government to back off our communities.
To help those interested, VFF has published a comprehensive guide on local government and how to get involved with the upcoming elections, with information about every local body district in the country. There’s also a detailed information page on the VFF website.
Time for registering candidate nominations is running out, but VFF will help those interested in completing the forms and getting them in on time.
If you are interested in supporting a candidate, VFF will also put you in touch with the right people in your local network.
Key dates
- 12 August 2022 – deadline for candidate nominations

????????????????
LGNZ & Councils are all corporate bodies that are NOT public service organizations, nor are they democratic by any stretch of the imagination!
Perhaps we’ve all woken up to the fact that it’s a con & at best the councillers are just puppets (or parasites) who are only there for the free lunches.
It has also probably not gone unnoticed that the voting public are clueless so will only vote for the same ‘old boy & girl’ network candidates & so why waste our time???
