This week the leaders of DairyNZ, Beef+Lamb NZ, and Federated Farmers met in Christchurch to discuss emissions pricing and to establish common positions between our three organisations so we can move forward together and advocate strongly on behalf of farmers.
A united voice on emissions pricing is the best way to ensure positive policy outcomes for farmers.
It was a productive discussion and all three organisations have agreed on the following core principles that we will all be raising directly with the Government on your behalf:
The current methane targets are wrong and need to be reviewed. Any target should be science-based, not political, and look to prevent additional warming.
The methane price should be set at the minimum level needed and be fixed for a five-year period to give farmers certainty.
Any levy revenue must be ringfenced and only be used for the administration of the system, investment in R&D, or go back to farmers as incentives. Administration costs must be minimised.
The future price should be set by the Minister on the advice of an independent oversight board appointed by all He Waka Eke Noa partners.
The system must incentivise farmers to uptake technology and adopt good farming practices that will reduce global emissions.
All sequestration that can be measured and is additive should be counted. We stand by what was proposed by the He Waka Eke Noa partnership on sequestration.
Farmers should be able to form collectives to measure, manage, and report their emissions in an efficient way.
Farmers who don’t have access to mitigations or sequestration should be able to apply for temporary levy relief if the viability of their business is threatened.
We will not accept emissions leakage. The way to prevent that happening is by getting the targets, price, sequestration, incentives, and other settings right.
Our organisations are all united in our determination to get the best possible outcome we can and will continue to work closely together as we advocate for farmers.
Individual organisations will continue to raise sector specific issues.

I agree Ron. Having a United voice and offering their terms just proves they have bought into the climate hoax. They can’t walk over you unless you lie down. To cave into government pressure and overreach shows how weak this sector is getting. People are trying to support them in fighting this but seriously the twats can dance with the devil I give up. Quite frankly they deserve what’s coming. If there are any farmers left who are against this, I suggest you sack these dicks in charge because you will never get your voice back if you don’t it will be to late!
Government could easily add a penny to the price of milk, butter, cheese etc, at the checkout. Shoppers wouldn’t notice or care, it’s just a penny. What’s the real motivation for burdening farmers?
The Government..!? The supermarkets are doing that every day, and a lot more than a penny. ????
NO AMOUNT of CO2 or methane emissions reduction by N.Z. farmers will make ANY difference to ‘global emissions’ or to ‘global warming’. This joint statement is virtue signaling and damning evidence that the Government (under the sway of their U.N., W.E.F., I.M.F. and B.I.S. handlers) has duped all three (de Poel, Morrison and Hoggard) with its politicized pseudo-science, climate alarmism and propaganda campaign. Shame on all three of you – naïve participants (and Mr Global’s instruments!) in the destruction and demise of our agriculture industry, which once was one of the (if not THE) best in the world.
Do your research, morons. WAKE UP!

Over half of the money taxed will be spent on collecting it. System pigs like to complicate everything and their appetite for power and dollars will never wane. They are no longer paper shufflers but turned into fat pigs.
How about a thorough study into the carbon cycle and how plant growth relies on carbon. Reduced carbon levels means lower yields in the food industry. Nothing to see here moving right along
Methane is a non issue it operates at a frequency that is covered by water vapor and only lasts about 12 years

Plenty of great studies looking into the absorption and release of CO2 by the oceans, a naturally occurring cycle that has occurred for eons. Cooler seawater holds carbon and a warming ocean body releases carbon. CO2 dissolves in water creating carbonic acid. Carbonic acid releases hydrogen ions which combine with carbonate in seawater to form bicarbonate (this is held in the ocean). When ocean water warms on the surface an upwelling of deeper waters rich in carbonate dissolved from limestone and other rocks occurs. Then that becomes surface water, warms and releases carbon into the atmosphere. Sun cycles, weather patterns and ocean currents all.contribute to this carbon cycle. All been going on for eons and not a cow fart or tractor backfire contributed. The carbon emissions debacle is another factor of control, it will only succeed with our compliance
