26 year old apprentice jockey Megan Taylor has died after a fall today at the Ashburton races.
Taylor was riding Red Orchid when a group of four horses fell entering a straight. Another horse made contact with her as she was on the ground. The accident happened during Race 2, and the remainder of the meet was cancelled.
It is with a very heavy heart I report that South Island apprentice jockey Megan Taylor has died after a fall in race 2 at Ashburton today. Two other jockeys involved in same fall. Heartbreaking for the racing industry and our thoughts with Megan’s family and friends

My heart goes out to her family. just tragic. Horse riding is a dangerous sport no matter how good we are at riding things can go wrong very quickly. RIP Megan.
