Dr. Alison Goodwin to highlight pharmacovigilance at “Safe & Effective” Roadshow

Dr. Alison Goodwin news

GP and patient rights advocate Dr. Alison Goodwin is set to deliver a talk on the shortcomings of pharmacovigilance—the monitoring of medicine safety—from a general practitioner’s perspective at the upcoming “Safe & Effective” Roadshow.

Dr. Goodwin, a founding member of New Zealand Doctors Speaking Out with Science (NZDSOS) plans to address the gap between intended outcomes and actual practices, highlighting how the current systems in New Zealand may be failing to protect public health. Understanding the issues is the first step towards reform, and she hopes to shed light on how New Zealanders have been let down by existing frameworks.

Dr. Goodwin, an Otago-trained physician with a background in emergency and general practice, will also discuss the difficulties that individuals face when applying for Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) support.

Registrations for the “Safe & Effective” Roadshow be made online at the Safe & Effective Roadshow website, with events being held during November in Dunedin (9th), Queenstown (11th), Nelson (13th), and Wellington (15th).
