Wallabies fall short against Ireland in Sydney

The Wallabies suffered a heartbreaking 31-33 defeat to Ireland in front of a record crowd at Allianz Stadium after Ben Donaldson missed two difficult late penalty attempts, including a sideline kick after the final siren that would have secured victory.

Australia made a blistering start, racing to a 24-12 lead through tries from Harry Pietsch, Jock Campbell, Josh Canham, Ryan Lonergan and Tate McDermott, with Rob Valetini and Carter Gordon leading the charge. However, Ireland mounted a determined second-half comeback, taking advantage of Australian errors and sustained pressure before prop Thomas Clarkson scored the decisive try.

Despite the narrow loss, coach Joe Schmidt praised his side’s attacking intent but said the Wallabies must become more clinical after missed opportunities and defensive lapses allowed Ireland to claim a sixth consecutive win over Australia.
