President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as part of his administration’s agenda to streamline federal operations and eliminate government waste.
In a statement on Tuesday, Trump said he was confident in the duo’s ability to reshape the federal government, citing their proven track records in business and innovation.
“Together, these two outstanding Americans will help us dismantle bureaucratic red tape, reduce excessive regulations, cut wasteful spending, and overhaul federal agencies,” he said.
Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX, commented in the statement, noting that the initiative would “send shockwaves through the system” and target those responsible for government waste.
The administration likened DOGE’s mission to the WWII-era Manhattan Project, implying it could lead to transformative changes within federal operations.
Trump also highlighted that Musk would lead DOGE, working closely with Ramaswamy, though specific titles were not disclosed. The appointment follows a pledge Trump made in September to form a government efficiency commission, with Musk overseeing an audit of federal spending and performance.
Musk, who endorsed Trump following an assassination attempt in July, voiced his enthusiasm for the appointment on X, posting, “Threat to democracy? Nope, threat to BUREAUCRACY!!!”
Ramaswamy, founder of Roivant Sciences and a former GOP primary candidate, dropped out of the 2024 race and endorsed Trump.

What an oxymoron. There has never been a corporate state government department that’s ever been efficient.
DOGI – Department of Government Inefficiency.
Good comment.
Sad thing is that the alternative would’ve certainly been only efficient for the deep state.
We live in interesting times.
Elon Musk made 80 percent of people redundant at Twitter after he purchased it and then it became X. It still works just as well, but with less censorship. What if he could remove 80 percent (or perhaps 90 percent) of the federal government? It would save a lot of money but it would also be easier to see what they are doing. At present the federal government is completely impenetrable and unaccountable to the people.
