Former Labour MP and the first mayor of Auckland’s North Shore City Ann Hartley has passed away surrounded by family.
Hartley, who was elected as North Shore City’s inaugural mayor in 1989 and later served as an MP for Northcote from 1999 to 2008, was a prominent advocate for social justice and community development.
She held roles as Deputy Speaker and Assistant Speaker in Parliament and served on various committees.
Recognised for her public service, Hartley was named to the Queen’s Service Order in 2022.
