US and Israeli strikes have targeted key infrastructure in Iran, hitting two petrochemical facilities in Khuzestan province while the Bushehr nuclear site was again attacked, with Iranian reports confirming at least one fatality.
Tehran also claims it has downed two US warplanes, with one reportedly brought down over Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province and another crashing in the Gulf. According to American media, two crew members have been rescued, while at least one remains unaccounted for as search efforts continue.
Iranian authorities have authorised vessels carrying essential goods and humanitarian aid to transit the Strait of Hormuz, with permissions applying to ships bound for Iranian ports or operating in the Sea of Oman. At the same time, online monitoring group Megatron reported what it described as the largest visible US airlift of the conflict so far, citing flight tracking data that appeared to show multiple US Air Force C-17 transport aircraft and KC-135 refuelling tankers heading toward the Middle East.
The escalation has been compounded by threats of further US strikes, with Donald Trump warning that Iranian infrastructure, including power plants, could be targeted next. “Our Military… hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran,” he wrote, adding that bridges and electrical facilities could be next. Iran’s military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari responded with a warning of immediate retaliation should such attacks proceed, signalling the risk of a broader and more destructive phase in the conflict.
