Second US aircraft shot down in Iran

Iran has shot down at least two U.S. military aircraft in separate incidents.

Unverified reports online suggest further aircraft loses have been suffered in the last 24 hours, including two Apache helicopters.

One crew member from a downed fighter jet was rescued, while another remains unaccounted for, prompting an ongoing U.S. search-and-rescue operation. The strikes come just hours after President Donald Trump claimed again that Iran’s army, navy and anti-aircraft capability had been “obliterated,” though he insisted the latest developments would not alter negotiations, stating simply: “It’s war.” Iranian state media also reported the downing of a U.S. A-10 ‘Warthog’ ground support aircraft over the Persian Gulf, though U.S. officials said details ‘remain unclear’.

The incidents unfolded amid a broader surge in Iranian attacks across the Middle East, including strikes on energy infrastructure and strategic assets in Gulf states, further destabilising global markets.

Iran’s continued control over the Strait of Hormuz has driven oil prices sharply higher and raised concerns about supply disruptions. Fighting has intensified across multiple fronts, with casualties mounting in Iran, Israel, Lebanon and surrounding regions, as international efforts to ease tensions struggle to gain traction.
