Sean Brickland selected as NZ Outdoors & Freedom Party’s Northland candidate

Sean Brickland news

The NZ Outdoors & Freedom Party is proud to announce Sean Brickland as its candidate for Northland, a man who embodies the resilience, grit, and common-sense values of the North.

With a life story defined by the “School of Hard Knocks,” Brickland brings over sixty years of hands-on experience, from the rugged back blocks of Southern Hawke’s Bay to the front lines of Northland’s primary industries.

“They say if you don’t have emotional and physical scars by the time you reach sixty, then you haven’t lived,” says Sean Brickland. “By that measure, I have lived a hundred lives. I wear those scars with pride because they represent the hard work and determination required to survive and thrive in rural New Zealand.”

A Lifetime of Hard Work

Raised by a young couple with a dream of farm ownership, Sean Brickland learned the value of a strong work ethic at an early age. His journey across ten different schools, including two boarding schools, provided Brickland with a unique, first-hand insight into the education system, seeing both the good and the bad.

After five years in horticulture, Brickland returned to manage the family farm in Northland during the high-pressure economy of the early 1980s. Facing a massive mortgage and 26% interest rates, he demonstrated the classic Northland “can-do” attitude. When the government called for diversification, Brickland took it literally, entering the entertainment industry as an actor, performer, busker, and radio personality to ensure the farm’s survival.

Diversity in Experience

Brickland’s professional background is as diverse as the Northland landscape itself. For over thirty years, he has worked across multiple sectors, including:

  • Heavy Industry: Operating trucks, loaders, and diggers, loading logs, and working at the Marsden Point Refinery.
  • Commerce: Extensive experience in retail, sales, and marketing.
  • Primary Production: Decades of experience in farming and horticulture.

A Voice for the Environment and Community

A lifelong outdoorsman, Sean Brickland’s earliest memories are of fishing on the Whanganui wharf at age four. Today, Brickland still hunts or fishes at least once a week to provide for his family. His dedication to the community is proven through his service as an elected member and Chairman of two school boards, his work with the Northland Field Days committee, and his role on the Northland Fish & Game Council.

Standing for Balance and Freedom

After witnessing significant changes to the New Zealand environment and social fabric over the last 63 years, Sean Brickland is standing for the NZ Outdoors & Freedom Party to bring balance back to the physical, spiritual, and cultural environments of the North.

“We need a common-sense approach,” Brickland states. “It is time to regain our balance and protect the lifestyle that makes Northland, and New Zealand, so unique.”

The NZ Outdoors & Freedom Party invites the Northland community to support Sean Brickland, a candidate who truly understands the challenges of the working man and the importance of our natural heritage.
