US President Donald Trump has wrapped up a highly choreographed summit in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing the talks as “very successful” and claiming major trade agreements were reached, despite little official confirmation from either side.

Trump said China would purchase 200 Boeing aircraft and billions of dollars worth of American agricultural products, though Beijing stopped short of endorsing those claims. The summit focused heavily on trade, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, Taiwan and the Middle East, with business leaders including Elon Musk and Jensen Huang joining the US delegation.

“We talked about possibly working together for guardrails,” said Trump.

While both sides praised the visit and agreed to continue discussions ahead of a proposed White House meeting in September, no major breakthroughs were formally announced.

China reiterated Taiwan remained the most sensitive issue in bilateral relations, warning mishandling it could trigger serious conflict between the two powers.

“The Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations. If mishandled, the two nations could collide or even come into conflict,” said Xi.
