A new report by the UK’s National Audit Office has revealed that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor received rental income from sub-letting three cottages on the Royal Lodge estate, which he leases from the Crown Estate.
The audit also disclosed that King Charles III personally covers the rent for non-working royals Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice in royal palaces.
The report, the first major review of royal residences in two decades, found Andrew and his family had access to 12 properties, including Royal Lodge, where he retained a lease until October 2026 despite moving out earlier this year.
While the audit found no wrongdoing, critics questioned the continued subsidisation of luxury accommodation for non-working royals. Palace officials said rental arrangements are designed to cover costs and ensure no additional burden falls on public funding, while both the Royal Household and the Crown Estate welcomed the report as part of ongoing transparency efforts.
