A man accused of swallowing a $33,585 Fabergé James Bond Octopussy pendant during an alleged theft at Partridge Jewellers in Auckland has appeared in the Auckland District Court, where he was remanded in custody without entering a plea.

Police were called on 28 November after staff reported the man had picked up the diamond- and sapphire-studded 18ct gold locket and ingested it, prompting a medical assessment and constant monitoring by officers.

Police confirmed the pendant was recovered by Friday, and Partridge Jewellers said its team acted swiftly to ensure safety before the matter was handed over to authorities, with the item now set to be returned to Fabergé.
