A single Powerball ticket sold in Arkansas has won a massive $1.817 billion jackpot in a Christmas Eve draw, the second-largest lottery prize ever claimed.
The winning ticket matched all six numbers, giving the holder the choice between the full jackpot paid over 29 years or a lump-sum cash option of $834.9 million before tax, with most winners typically choosing the upfront payment.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, and the prize will be subject to substantial federal and likely state taxes.
