Two small rabbit rescue charities in the UK have become the unlikely focus of an online backlash after they were targeted by trans rights activists for following gender-critical accounts on social media.

Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue came under fire when a self-described “trans entitlement activist” accused the charity of supporting “biological realist” views due to who it followed on X.

Despite stating they were apolitical and focused solely on animal welfare, the charity lost hundreds of followers after the incident—but quickly gained over 10,000 new supporters in a wave of public solidarity.

The controversy soon spilled over to another group, The Tranquil Rabbit Sanctuary, sparking wider criticism of what some are calling overreach by activist circles.

Commentators likened the campaign to earlier attempts to police public figures like J.K. Rowling based on their social media activity.

Critics argue the aggressive tactics have alienated sections of the UK public, framing the episode as part of a broader shift against what they see as distasteful behaviour in some trans activist communities.
