Bed Bath & Beyond has been fined $230,000 for breaching the Fair Trading Act by selling non-compliant children’s pyjamas and hot water bottles without the required safety warnings.
The Commerce Commission found that 27,374 products sold between March and October 2023 lacked legally mandated fire hazard labels and usage instructions, increasing the risk of harm for consumers.
A spokesperson for the Commission said it was important for businesses to comply with safety regulations, particularly for fire and burn risks. The retailer was sentenced in the Auckland District Court after the Commission pursued the case due to the large scale of non-compliant sales.
Health & Safety, the new tyranny, deleting common sense and feeding the parasites.
Is this a burning issue? I take it that flammable polyester or some other synthetic is involved in this judgment. It is beyond ridiculous that in a top wool producing country it is virtually impossible to find woolen clothing that is neither second hand nor produced in the PRC (no offence to the PRC) Will any of that $230,000 go to benefit cold children? it is doubtful.
