Some Westpac customers faced issues with eftpos card payments and online banking, with some reporting zero account balances last night.
The bank acknowledged the problems on social media, citing issues with card services and online banking, and assured that they were working on a resolution.
Downdetector recorded over 100 complaints by 6:30 PM, although no issues were reported the following morning.
A spokesperson stated that a small number of customers were affected, especially with accessing Westpac One online banking and card services.
Affected individuals shared their frustrations, including a man who found his account empty upon arriving from Australia and a woman who was unable to pay for dinner.
The bank apologised, clarifying that it was a technical issue rather than fraud, and efforts were underway to rectify the situation.
Anyone here with Westpac & had their accounts disappear tonight? A friend of mine had this happen to her and according to Westpac it’s a ‘technical issue with online banking’ (it’s not- her card was declined and her accounts don’t exist except for KiwiSaver). Att. NZ journalists
