Assistant Commissioner approved unfit police recruits as audit reveals widespread breaches of entry standards

Assistant Commissioner Jill Rogers, a senior police leader and contender for Deputy Commissioner, admitted allowing at least two applicants who failed the Physical Appraisal Test (PAT) into police college.

Despite clear policy requirements, Rogers applied “discretion” to let unqualified recruits begin training. Police are now investigating whether this happened more widely, as a recent audit revealed 17 recruits failed the fitness test, 128 failed literacy assessments, and 36 failed psychometric testing but were allowed to progress regardless.

The breaches raise questions about public assurances from Police Commissioner Richard Chambers and Police Minister Mark Mitchell, who claimed no orders were given to lower standards.

The revelations in legacy media (paywalled) have drawn criticism from Labour’s police spokesperson Ginny Andersen, who says such decisions likely stem from executive levels, not frontline staff.

Chambers confirmed he was informed by Rogers in April but maintains there was no formal directive to drop standards, saying each case was considered individually.

However, Andersen accuses both Chambers and Mitchell of misleading the public. The controversy comes amid pressure to meet the Government’s target of 500 new frontline officers by November—a goal Chambers describes as “ambitious” due to ongoing attrition.

  1. Was driving my van down an open road and passed a cop. I saw them in the rear view do a dukes of hazard 180 degree turn and start chasing me. I pulled over and the cop got out and came to my window. A large young female who looked just out of training school “Sorry wrong person” and she drove off. It was no mistake and i swear she did it deliberately just for a power trip

  2. As long as they oppress the public, when the globalist turn coat political establishment tells them to, it doesn’t matter. The more compromised they are, the more pliable. Just look at the US presidents, the ruling class wants pliant puppets.

  3. NZ police are are here to protect government first and take money from people who cause no risk or harm to anyone by travelling a few kms over the limit in order to subsidise police operations.

The police complaints Authority has no teeth. Just recommendations.

If you have ever been subject to police perjury, police altering statements that was revealed in court and nothing was done about it, then you will fully understand just how little this nation thinks how unimportant you are. Thankfully a jury stepped up at took a few minutes.

    On another unrelated point…..
Are police there to protect you from gangs? Gangs do not exist in nations who treat drugs as a medical condition. These countries allow, drugs to be administered by heath professionals and slowly reduce and change to less addictive, less harmful drugs and then reduce to zero. Check out the Michael Moore doco on drugs.
