A late-night fire at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao bar in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district has claimed at least 27 lives and left 73 people injured, including 25 in critical condition.
The blaze erupted near the stage shortly after midnight and spread rapidly, filling the venue with smoke after reportedly cutting the power.
Firefighters extinguished the flames within about 30 minutes, discovering many victims in a bathroom where they had sought refuge. Preliminary investigations indicate a possible electrical fault in an air-conditioning unit, while officials are also examining whether flammable interior materials and a potentially obstructed emergency exit contributed to the high death toll.
Authorities have launched a full investigation and announced financial assistance for victims’ families, as the disaster renews concerns over the enforcement of fire safety standards following similar fatal incidents in Thailand.
