Calls to deport Massey Uni Communications Professor after Charlie Kirk comments

Mohan Dutta news

National MP for Southland Joseph Mooney challenged the conduct of Massey University’s Professor of Communication, Mohan J Dutta, who described Charlie Kirk as a “white supremacist far right figure” and criticised MPs for paying tribute to the slain American social commentator.

Mooney argued that such rhetoric is divisive and inappropriate in the wake of what many see as a politically motivated assassination of a private citizen who was simply debating ideas on a university campus.

Mooney’s statement that New Zealand “doesn’t need a professor encouraging this kind of hyper-politicised rhetoric” has been met with backing from members of the public, with some questioning whether Dutta should remain in the country at all. One supporter called for an investigation into his citizenship, while others argued that Massey University should be defunded if it continues to employ individuals who, in their view, undermine free speech and celebrate political violence.

Many critics have expressed anger that Dutta appears to use his platform not to foster open discussion but to stigmatise and divide. “It’s one thing to emigrate to a country that is safer, cleaner and more prosperous than the one you left,” one comment read, “but quite another to tell New Zealanders what they’re doing wrong and foster the same division you escaped.” Others went further, calling for his removal from any role of influence within the education system.

Supporters of Mooney insist that universities must uphold freedom of thought and protect open dialogue, rather than allow staff to mock tributes to a man killed while exercising free speech. They argue that Dutta’s remarks are out of step with New Zealand’s values and show contempt for the principle of debate that Charlie Kirk was engaged in at the time of his death.

  1. The fact this idiot thinks Charlie is far right shows you just how low the left have fallen. They are so far left that anythjng to the right of them must feel very far.

Interesting to note Takuta Ferris, that white looking man who tries to talk tough, is/was also employed at Massey university.

No wonder the university has become woke with no credibility anymore. I am embarrassed to say I attended that university these days. It used to be a proud place where real men and women, from grassroots backgrounds came to cement their futures. No longer. These subversive and divisive people who have infiltrated the institution have wrecked it.

  2. There is a ground shift from the Right on this, firings are happening in the USA and more will come as these disgusting smug liberals get tracked down, this guy should be sent back to the shithole that he came from ASAP.

  3. These imported foreigners like this professor of clownery have absoluty no understanding or repsect for our democratic rights to free speech or freedom of thought and belief. To call Kirk a white supremacist when he had thousands of black supporters after his shocking assassination while engaged in peaceful debate is the peak of clownery. How the hell did this clown get a phd?

  4. The left wingers have a completely warped view of what Charlie Kirk stood for, due to mainstream media misinformation and social media videos edited to take his speeches and comments out of context or twist his meaning. Its quite frightening this so-called academic has these warped views on Kirk. To label the man with the white supremacist slur the same day he was shot in front of his kids was disgraceful. Send this professor back to where he came from

    • Agreed. I certainly didn’t agree with Kirk on everything but his ideas and voice were worthy of debate which is all he did. He was just doing, with great courage i might add, what we are supposed to do in a democratic society in a contest of ideas. Calling him a “white supremacist” was disgusting. A nationalist yes, white supremacist far from it.

        • Whiney, irritating foreign gibberish blared city-wide over gigantic loudspeakers isn’t a part of his culture.

He wasn’t “afraid” of it, he just wanted his children to grow up in the same culture and religion he did. Like all people want for their children.

          Why does THAT scare YOU?

        • Zaggaz go open a fried pork restaurant in Saudi Arabia and see how you get on, be sure to ask the locals why are they afraid of pork sandwiches?

        • You’re a troll zag.

There is no place for “a call to prayer” in a Christian country. If people want to hear that then they should go to a country where “a call to prayer” is the norm.

If that’s you, then by all means LEAVE. Your opinions may have been tolerated before but no more.

we will be silent NO LONGER.

You can have your free speech, but expect to be challenged from now on. We aren’t tolerating your BS any more. Tolerance has got us NOWHERE.

          GOD defend NEW ZEALAND 🇳🇿

    • Yes, anyone who’s ever listened to even 5 minutes of any Charlie Kirk debates knows he was FAR from a white supremacist. He always addressed people with simple facts and sometimes even compassion, no matter how batsh!t insane some of their garbage beliefs and stupid opinions were. I personally sometimes found him a little milquetoast to be honest ( I prefer the blood sport debaters like Andrew Wilson), but the spawn of Hitler he certainly was not.

Leftists are highly emotional, useful idiots. Empty vessels, truly. They’re easily manipulated by groupthink and their echo chambers. They only hated Charlie Kirk so badly because they couldn’t compete with him. He took too many young voters away from them, woke too many kids up. That’s why they’re celebrating his death like the vile, demonic cult they are.

Every single thing they’ve ever accused the right wing of being is what they already are.

      • Well said 🦆. They hated Charlie because they ultimately hate themselves and they knew he was right and didn’t have the drive or intelligence to be like him. So they hated him. We experience it here in this country all the time. micro aggressions from people too lazy to do the work. It’s literally tall poppy syndrome.

I am not a particularly successful person, but I look after my health, have dignity in the way I conduct myself with other people, and have a good heart and try and be upbeat and positive. People hate me because it takes personal discipline to be like me and many people cannot do it. To be hated for being healthy happy and positive shows us how sad many people are. Charlie was trying to SHOW a people how to have everything he had, faith, love and family, and he was hated for it. That’s a sad indictment on those who hated him.

  5. Thus tells you everything you need to know about the state of universities and not only in New Zealand. Hardly a place for “free thinkers”.

    • I will do everything within my power and until the last breath leaves my body to ensure none of my children ever set foot in an NZ “university”.

      • Especially Massey University, and Palmerston North for that matter, a lot of people from that place seem to be a bunch of wonabe’s, be they car dealer’s, or professor’s.

  6. FACT: charlie was not racist, he was a reasonable guy
FACT : charlie was portrayed as a racist by MSM across several nations
FACT: There are racists across the spectrum
FACT: racists in the left showed themselves already
FACT: the racists on the right are coming out after DJT got into power

This shit is murky as hell

  7. This is Grok’s summary of Dutta.

Mohan J Dutta, a communication scholar at Massey University, passionately critiques white supremacy and far-right politics in Aotearoa, advocating for anti-racism and decolonial perspectives.mjdutt fiercely defends IIT’s legacy and exposes far-right networks in Aotearoa, sparking heated debates. The X community has mixed reactions to @mjdutt
    , with @etangata
praising his insights on Gaza and caste, while @buzzford98
criticizes his credentials and views. The NZ mainstream media are steeped in whiteness, the supremacist ideology of white culture. Nowhere is the mix of ignorance and arrogance more evident than in international coverage. All this while virtue signalling Te Tiriti.
    -@mjdutt

  8. Mohan J. Dutta, the communication scholar and professor at Massey University in New Zealand, was born in India. He earned his Bachelor of Technology (Honors) in Agricultural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, a prestigious Indian institution, before pursuing a PhD in Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota in the United States.

His surname, Dutta, is a common Indian name, particularly among Bengalis and in eastern India.

While he has lived and worked internationally, including in Singapore and the US, his educational background and origins trace back to India.

  9. Grok: What ideological affiliations does he have?

Mohan J. Dutta’s ideological affiliations, as evidenced by his scholarly work, public writings, and social media activity, are rooted in progressive, left-leaning frameworks that emphasize social justice, decolonial theory, and critiques of power structures. He is a prominent advocate for the culture-centered approach (CCA) to communication, which promotes participatory democracy, health equity, and amplifying voices from marginalized communities to challenge neoliberal and colonial policies.

    3 sources

This approach aligns with radical democracy and transformative social change, often framed as activism against global inequalities in health and poverty.

Key affiliations include:Anti-Racism and Anti-White Supremacy: Dutta consistently critiques white supremacy as a foundational ideology in media, journalism, and settler colonialism, particularly in Aotearoa New Zealand. He links it to far-right politics, disinformation, and colonial violence, such as in his analyses of Gaza coverage and the Christchurch mosque attacks.

    8 sources

He supports Māori sovereignty under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and opposes anti-Māori racism, often calling out “divide and rule” tactics in migrant communities.

    7 sources

Decolonial and Anti-Colonial Perspectives: His work deconstructs colonial legacies in communication studies, health policies, and global media, advocating for decolonizing futures and centering subaltern voices.

    5 sources

He frames Zionism as a settler-colonial ideology tied to white supremacy and British imperialism, expressing solidarity with Palestinian resistance.

    3 sources

Anti-Hindutva and Anti-Far-Right: Dutta vehemently opposes Hindutva (the ideology of the BJP and RSS), viewing it as a fascist, supremacist threat that promotes hate, disinformation, and erasure of minorities like Muslims and Bengalis.

    8 sources

He critiques its intersections with global far-right movements, including “Hindus for Trump” and anti-Muslim rhetoric.

Anti-Caste and Social Justice Activism: Drawing from his Indian background, Dutta addresses caste as an ancient form of racism, linking it to anti-Indigenous attitudes among some Indian migrants and broader inequalities.

    5 sources

His activism supports feminist and ethnic women’s leadership while challenging Hindutva misogyny.

Critique of Neoliberalism and Libertarianism: He examines neoliberal ideologies in media coverage of crises and dismisses libertarianism as enabling racism under the guise of “free speech.”

    3 sources

Critics from right-wing perspectives, such as Hindu nationalist groups, label him an “ultra-leftist” or “Marxist” for these stances, particularly his Hindutva critiques, but his work aligns more closely with decolonial and participatory justice traditions than explicit Marxism.

    3 sources

Overall, Dutta’s affiliations position him as a scholar-activist committed to dismantling supremacist structures and fostering equitable, culture-centered dialogues.

  10. What political associations does he have

    Browsed en.wikipedia.org

    Show All (3)

Mohan J. Dutta does not appear to hold formal memberships in political parties based on available public records, scholarly profiles, or his social media activity. Instead, his political associations are primarily informal, rooted in activist networks, academic collaborations, and public advocacy aligned with progressive and left-leaning movements focused on social justice, anti-colonialism, and decolonial activism. These connections emphasize solidarity with marginalized communities, critiques of neoliberalism and far-right ideologies, and the promotion of health as a human right through participatory democracy.

  11. Whole lot of hypocrites in this story and commenting. Either Dutta free speech is as allowed as Charlie Kirks or speech is not free.

“doesn’t need a professor encouraging this kind of hyper-politicised rhetoric” has been met with backing from members of the public, with some questioning whether Dutta should remain in the country at all. One supporter called for an investigation into his citizenship, while others argued that Massey University should be defunded if it continues to employ individuals who, in their view, undermine free speech and celebrate political violence.

Charlie Kirk supported Israel’s actions of late. Those include assassinations and assassination attempts of politicians in Gaza, Yemen, Iran, Lebanon etc.

The indignation of Charlie’s supporters fall flat for me.

    • Don’t always agree with everything you say, but on this point you’re correct.

Cancel culture shouldn’t exist at all. Not from the left or the right.

The things most of these lefties are saying and tweeting about Charlie Kirk are vile and abhorrent, but they should be free to say them without reprisals.

Silencing people doesn’t stop the hatred, it only makes everything fester and grow worse. I WANT to know exactly what the other side are saying and thinking at all times, it’s necessary in order to be able to challenge their BS. There is immeasurable value in keeping the left unmasked; with every disgusting word they drive the average centrist further away.

      • No, I think you are wrong, at an individual level you have a right to take civil recourse and sue ( or spread rumours about them or try to get them fired from their job if you have the influence or anything else if it is legal) someone who slandered you, the right to free speech is not a defence.
The same must apply at a societal level.

        • Agree with everything right up to “the same must apply at societal level”.

Who will enforce that? The government? Big tech? The media? Pardon me if I just go ahead and carry on not trusting them.

“Freedom of speech, not freedom from consequence” was the snarky retort of every Stuff journalist during Covid and every current EU politician scrambling to censor the internet. Cancel culture is precisely how the left lost the average normal person, it is a LOSING political strategy, and we shouldn’t pick it up or we’ll be where they are a few short years from now.

If a doctor or a professor etc get fired from their job, it should be because they’re terrible at their job, not because they said or posted something stupid online, no matter how vile. Let people read their Twitter and FB posts and decide “f*ck that guy” for themselves. Then they can decide not to visit his practice or give him their money etc from there.

Again, the point I wanted to make above is that we NEED to know what the other side is saying and thinking in order to be able to formulate a counter argument against it. Echo chambers benefit no one.

          • The Societal level I am using as an example is more than one person which can include all people.
Who enforces it? The group does with the resources available to the group as long as they don’t break any laws.
“Freedom of speech, not freedom from consequence.” This is where the problem starts, when the politicians insert themselves to be unwanted moderators. The only consequences should be societal, and example is being shuned and shamed.
As for Dutta, if the people that appointed him do not agree with what he says, they may terminate his contract (if the contract allows for it). These are societal consequences, extreme societal consequences would be the termination of the people who appointed him by the level of bureaucracy above it. The ultimate social consequence is the Government of the day being terminated at the next election because of its actions or inactions.

    • And the people on the Left who had a problem with Kirk expressing his views decided that killing him was an appropriate response, yes Kirks was able to express himself without legal restrictions, and so is Dutta, but having him sacked wont infringe on his right and ability to express his opinions and freedom of speech.

      • Sacking him will have a freezing effect for other. So the consequence will be a deterioration of freedom of speech.
I would like to remind you a cold-war joke:
In the USSR there is a freedom of speech, in the US: – a freedom AFTER speech

    • No one is saying the august professor doesnt have a right to free speech. He just exercised it! The probelm is he did so in the most ignorant, stupid way

    • Apologies if I appear as grammar stickler: Punctuation and proper quotating marks and references are essential to be able to distinguish and take up dialogue.

    • There’s no place for extreme left or right views in our educational institutions.

Dhutta has now exposed himself as an extreme leftist and as such there is no place for people who hold such extreme views OR who are willing to attempt to influence in education institutions funded by the taxpayer and others publicly via social media comments.

If he wants to start up some separate extreme organisation to influence the keft he can be my guest but NOT ON MY DOLLAR or for that matter in my country. He doesn’t belong and he can respectfully F88k off. People like him have ruined massey university.

    • You’re wrong, zaggas. You wrote: “Charlie Kirk supported Israel’s actions of late.” In the last few months, Charlie was publicly criticising Bibi and the Zionists, and his wealthy American Jewish financial supporters were sending him angry and threatening emails.

  12. New Zealand’s universities are leftist looney institutes. Send your kids to become hates of freedom, country, and themselves.

  13. Another Woke useful idiot with no real world skills- It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt. Mark Twain

  14. Of course…. it was OK for us to HAVE to leave India was it not?
Just like Singapore? had to go.
As they say, the Chinese, Indians & Malays were only immigrants – but that’s OK.
    Is it OK?
    British leave India: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRo9T-aGjE4
There was something behind all of this…. The Left Hand Path? – Communism, the Fabian Society, the softly softly Socialists.
The USA sowed most of this bullshit for their money masters – now it is back to haunt them.

  15. He is a scum posting woke stuff online with zero research background. No publications in peer reviewed journals. One has to wonder why he was imported in the first place from Singapore. I know it is Massey, a community college, acting as a Uni but his appointment, which was made many years ago, was the worst one. He rarely comes to the Uni and works in his office by the way.

  16. Greate to see these positive comments on here defending Charlie Kirk, freedom of speech, and calling out the mainstream media. How a “work at university individual anything”, can have such warped view and misunderstanding of the political spectrums and what Charlie stood for, speaks volumes. The assassin was also radicalised at university and online it would seem. You, MJD, have blood on your hands too. Leave our country!

  17. Free speech doesn’t mean your free of consequences.
Also when it comes to the left its always one rule me & another for thee. You all know dam well if anyone who was right leaning had said anything the same as that trash had said & aimed at a lefty there’d be calls for removal i.e cancellation.
The time is past for playing nice/fair to the left this is not how they operate. They call for violence when things don’t go their way & now after two attempts at Trump & a success with Charlie & the rhetoric against so called anti vaxxers by politicians, media & general left leaning public, no its high time to fight fire with nukes.
The guy should be kicked out of the country & back to the crap hole bengal is

  18. To have a “professor” who celebrates killing a man for communicating is bad. And then to also celebrate a father and husband being murdered in cold blood in front of his family and students is atrocity. Deport this filth!!
