Government directs Health NZ to use “Women” instead of “Pregnant People” in health communications

Pregnancy news

The coalition government has instructed Health New Zealand to use the term “women” rather than “pregnant people” in its health communications.

Associate Health Minister Casey Costello issued the directive on 27 March, stating that clear, sex-specific language was necessary to ensure women, particularly those with English as a second language, can easily understand and access health services.

Costello cited the need for clarity in addressing female-specific conditions and inequities in the health system as the rationale behind the decision.

The directive was made via letter to interim Health NZ head Dale Bramley. In it, Costello said, “Only women and people of the female sex can get pregnant and birth a child no matter how they identify.”

“It is important that we have clarity about the people we are referring to when talking about women’s health. Sex-specific language ensures that women know what health services they are entitled to and can access these easily, especially for those women with English as a second language.”

“Clear language should be used in all documents and communications that refer to health issues specific to females.”

  1. A start to the de-wokeification of the health system, coming from NZ First, however the twisted ideologists will resist and national will allow them to slide.

  2. It says a lot about this day and age when woke Wellington bureaucrats need to be told that only women can give birth. Utter clown show.

  3. As a man i am offended i thought i could have a baby at least that’s what Hipkins and cindy inferred im so confused.
And that’s what these sick puppies are teaching our kids.
    The West has lost it.
Thank god Trump is in he knows what a woman is.

  4. And Radio New Zealand continues to waste time and resources inside their sick echo chamber right now in their 10am news Tuesday 15th – quoting Chris Hipkins about being inclusive.

Not a whisper from taxpayer-funded Radio New Zealand about the benefits of simple understandable plain language to guarantee explicitly clear communication.

  5. Well well well, the biology is clear cut. Right down to the cellular level. Boys and Men are very biologically different to girls and Women. Sensible…….at long last something sensible amidst the fkd up nonsense

  6. A fig leaf of semantic rationality does not disguise the appalling under funding of the heal system in New Zealand. If all this so called coalition have are stunts like this, then there is little to hope for by way of genuine reform.

  7. The only upside to all of this nonsense is it’s very useful to know that our Health Department is run by a bunch of pathetic brainless indoctrinated woke reality-denying nitwits.

  8. She could also tell them to stop referring to girls and women as menstruators, because I’ve seen that one used before and it’s equally offensive.

  9. Obviously we should not be employing these woke morons in the NZ health system.

It simply undermines public confidence in our dismal cretinous inept corrupt government.

  10. Please can somebody conduct IQ tests on our tax-payer funded government ‘health’ department bureaucrats.

I suspect it may yield a worryingly low score.

  11. What about using the term ‘Host’…or ‘Symbiant’…or ‘ Biological Incubator’?
Obviously, these people were traumatised when they saw the Alien series of movies, with the baby alien popping out of the chest, giving a yawn, and then hauling ass across the dinner table with it’s tail whipping about…
